Stop Motion Animation Class
Nerd Orchard was at Exploris Elementary, in Raleigh, NC this past Friday, teaching the first of a 6 session Stop Motion Animation class to 18 fourth and fifth graders. In this particular class we use the Lego Movie Maker App (It seems that this app may no longer be available for
download). We review the process of stop motion animation, the features of the app and how to utilize them, and the editing and publishing process. After 6 sessions, the students become professional stop motion animation video producers. It's awesome watching them create!
It's easy to make stop motion animation movies at home! All you need is a tablet or phone, and a free stop motion animation app installed. Be careful of the "in app purchases" on a lot of the "free" apps. They can really drive the cost up if you're not careful. Try to think "out of the box" when creating scenes and using objects to make your movies. We once had a student make a movie about a jar of pasta sauce and box of spaghetti falling in love! Oh, the power of creativity!
So look around the house and pull out things you might not typically use for a movie. See how creative you can get and of course have fun in the process!
