Tech Ed - A Family Affair
It's a good idea to learn tech as a family...
We recently held an Intro to HTML class, and it went really well. It was one of our first classes offered where adults were learning alongside children. In fact, our age range was 10 - 53! To us, that's pretty awesome! We are trying to help others figure out that learning new tech skills isn't just for kids, and learning tech skills as a family can be something really special.
The following is a testimonial from a father who recently attended a Nerd Orchard class with his son...
"Good Morning Renee,
I want to thank you again for hosting the class. For me, as a life-long learner and instructor, one of the most rewarding things for me is the "ah-ha" moment someone has when things finally click. I got to see a moment like that with Alex Wednesday night.
As you may have figured, he'd done a little dabbling in HTML earlier. This class helped Alex connect a few dots. During class he was able to work on his "side" project and finally figured out something he'd been struggling with. I could tell by his body language and his smile he had an "ah-ha" moment. I'm particularly thrilled that I got to sit next to him and see that. And maybe I'm more excited about it than he is. But to me, it's one of those moments that may help him decide what he wants to do in the future.
I'm sure your classes will have the same effect on other students. I appreciate the opportunity to be in the class, and Alex and I are looking forward to being in more classes.
Again, thank you,
This is a great example of tech education being a family affair. Most of our classes have a very broad age range. Step out of your comfort zone and learn alongside your kiddo. It's fun, it's rewarding, and it provides the much needed "family time" we are all trying to find!
